Summer 2024 Info

The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Effectiveness offers a limited number of awards toward the summer tuition and fees, encouraging undergraduate students to accumulate credit hours toward timely graduation. If eligible, an invited student would register for at least 5 credit hours during the UIC Summer Session 1 (4-week session) and/or Summer Session 2 (8-week session) and receive a scholarship toward tuition and fees. Due to limited funds, awards will be granted to qualified students until funds are expended.

Do you have questions about the Accelerate Your Success Program? Get answers below!

Yes. Invited students receive an email with the link to the application form.  Students will be notified via email whether they are accepted to the program. Students will need to sign up for at least 5 credit hours at UIC  in Summer 2024 to qualify for consideration for this offer. Funds are limited and awards will be distributed until funds are expended.

Yes, federal Pell Grant funding is available for the Summer term and can be used alongside this award. Students who are eligible for this program will receive specific information in their financial aid award letter about summer aid other than the Accelerate Your Success funding a few weeks after they register for summer courses. Questions about financial aid should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
The Accelerate Your Success scholarship does not appear on your initial summer financial aid notification, but for those receiving the scholarship, an email will be sent notifying you, and then a confirmation will be sent via email once the scholarship payment has been processed so that you can review your student account. The payment will post after the add/drop period for Summer Session 2. Questions about the Accelerate Your Success posting can be sent to summersuccess@uic.edu.

Students who drop below 5 credit hours by withdrawing from one of their summer courses before the end of the add/drop period of Summer Session 2  are effectively withdrawing from scholarship eligibility and, therefore, will be responsible for all tuition and fees incurred for the remaining course.

Important: Students who drop below five credit hours in the summer could lose Pell Grant eligibility for that semester. More information may be obtained by contacting the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to determine the impact on your specific Financial Aid package.

Generally, no. There is no limit regarding the choice of course(s) during Summer Session 1 (4-week session) and/or Summer Session 2 (8-week session), as long as the total credit hour reaches at least 5. Prerequisite or retake questions should be addressed by academic advisors.

However, in some cases the Accelerate Your Success award cannot be combined with other campus programs that feature special summer courses in which tuition is funded or waived (such as Break Through Tech, Summer Edge). It also cannot be used for students enrolled in Study Abroad Partnership or Exchange programs. We will contact any student whose award might be affected by participation in one of these programs.

There is no additional FAFSA required for summer. The FAFSA completed for the academic year 2023-2024 applies to Summer 2024.

Generally, No.  Financial aid used in the Summer term does not affect student aid for the upcoming academic year. However, summer Pell does count against the student’s lifetime eligibility. For more information, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Notification Timeline

Initial notifications of a decision for Summer 2024 will be emailed to all applicants at their UIC email starting April 22 through May 3. If awardees are not able to meet all eligibility requirements, subsequent applicants will be selected on an ongoing basis.

After applying, students should register for summer courses. If not being selected requires you to alter your summer plans, you can change your schedule without penalties by dropping courses before the Add/Drop deadline for Summer Session 1 (May 15) so as not to be charged.

Eligibility Requirements

Not necessarily. Because notifications are designed to go out as early as possible, some students may still be working on meeting all eligibility requirements. If a student is accepted to the program but does not meet all the requirements, they will not be awarded the scholarship, and, if possible, another applicant will be selected.

Also, in certain cases the Accelerate Your Success award cannot be combined with other UIC scholarship programs. If a student has been accepted to this program and decides to participate in another campus summer program in which tuition is funded or waived, they may no longer be eligible for Accelerate Your Success. We will contact any student whose award might be affected by participation in one of these programs.

Remember:

Maintain eligibility to register;

  • You must be eligible to register for Summer 2024 with no holds impeding registration;

 You must register for at least 5 credit hours in UIC Summer Session for Summer 2024;

  • Those credit hours can be completed in Summer Session 1 only, Summer Session 2 only, or a combination of Summer Session 1 and 2;

Academic Progress Eligibility:

  • You must remain eligible for financial aid and not have a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Cancellation in May 2024;

Only after the add/drop deadline for Summer Session 2 passes, Friday, June 14, will scholarships be applied to student accounts. It may take a few weeks after this date before you see the scholarship applied to your bill.
